Public Participation Opportunities

Whittier Union is committed to making the By-Trustee Area District Formation process transparent and inclusive, where all members of the community will be engaged and each voice will be valued and heard. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate one of the many events planned.

Meet the Demographer

These more intimate meetings, BY APPOINTMENT, will allow individuals or small groups to have a more in-depth discussing on the mapping process with the demographer.

Community Open Houses

These workshops will provide residents and community stakeholders a presentation about the redistricting process and allow attendees to provide structured input on the district formation mapping.

Public Hearings

Oct. 16: Demographers will discuss districting criteria, which could include creating compact, contiguous districts, preserving existing political communities and equal population sizes, and ensuring each high school attendance areas are represented by multiple board members. Input will be used to create the initial set of draft maps.

  3. Nov. 13: Demographers will unveil the first set of draft maps. WUHSD community members may provide input and testimony regarding the proposed trustee areas.
  4. Dec. 11: Demographers will unveil a second set of draft maps. WUHSD community members may provide input and testimony regarding the proposed trustee areas.
  5. Jan. 15: The Board of Trustees anticipates narrowing the number of maps for review. WUHSD community members may provide input.
  6. Feb. 12: The Board of Trustees is expected to select a final trustee map. The approved map would subsequently be presented to the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization.
